Great Skiing Conditions across France
There’s been around two metres snow in the last 7 days. It has been so heavy that skiing lifts were stopped, the funicular has been finishing at Chamonix ski resort and not heading up to Les Grands Montets. Several roads have been closed and avalanche announcements released.
Compare this to 2 winters ago, when we experienced the unbelievably mild Feb conditions, earth showing on the pistes, and reports that global warming meant the conclusion of skiing in Europe. The study from 2006 predicted that global warming could make ski holidays far too costly for the majority of holiday makers, with one-third of skiing resorts closing and the disappearance of glaciers. Glaciologists assert that it’s virtually impossible to ascribe the annual variations in the weather patterns to the outcomes of climate change.
So we may have the biggest downturn in almost 30 yrs, and the Pound has headed to record levels against the euro, but the skiing is superior, and the latest bookings show that skiers are keen to take of advantage of the fine skiing conditions. Its certainly the greatest in ten winters, and many skiers are saying that it is the finest skiing conditions in ten years.
All the same recall that snow like this means raised risks of avalanche.
