Baby’s First Night at Home

November 30th, 2008

We just arrived today from being released from the hospital. Our first baby, so hard but amazing to know I am finally a father and nothing I have ever done in the past has been more rewarding than this experience, what a lucky guy I am.

This is the baby’s first day here in our house, which finally feels like a home; both my wife and I feel complete.

So this is her first night, I wonder what she is thinking and how she feels in this new space, I am sure that she might be a little cold since, since the tempter in my house is not exactly 98.6 degrees, which is the temperature she is accustomed to. So I have been doing everything possible to keep her comfortable while my wife gets some rest.

Night has fallen and it’s bedtime for everyone, I am a little curious of how it’s going to go. I have cuddled her up in her beautiful pink crib and we will just have to see how it goes. After a couple of times just to check up on her, she was nothing but was perfect. We got to sleep lots. The baby almost seems to be on a routine. On the other hand I definitely feel a little left out sometimes. When I look at her, she just stares right though me, like I’m not even there. I just wish the baby connected with me, the way she connects with her mother. Sometimes, when I take the baby from her mom, she cries immediately. All it takes for the baby to be happy again is to be back in her moms arms. It so amazing. The connection that they have. You can see it. I just hope that someday, someday soon, our little girl will have that connection with me. I love this child.

Test Taking Stratagies

November 30th, 2008

Test Taking Strategies

These twelve tips will help you get through any test and as long as you prepared adequately for it, you will certainly get an A.

Come to the test prepared and feeling confident that you know the material. Make sure that you are not very hungry or very full and that you are well-rested. Avoid eating sugary or processed foods before the test. Avoid items such as candy, carbonated soft drinks, junk foods, and fried foods. Snack on fresh fruit or veggies immediately before to get your mind off the test and give you some sustenance. Breathe. Relax. Imagine yourself acing the test. It is amazing what a little positive imagery can do for you. Read ALL of the directions carefully. Reread them again once you have finished. Look through the test to see what types of questions are asked, how many questions, if there are any major essays, if you have choices about questions that you can answer, etc. Make sure you know how much each section is worth so you can budget your time. If the test involves specific equations, conversions, dates or anything else that you must memorize, write it on the top or margin of the test paper as soon as the test is handed out. Remembering complicated equations and dates before you have answered any questions is a lot easier than trying to remember them after you have answered half of the test questions and you brain is starting to get tired. Answer all easy questions first. This will help you get into the test taking mood and build confidence. Circle the numbers of the questions that you really have no idea about. You can come back to these later. Often times questions you answer later in the test might trigger something and help you answer a question that you were previously stuck on. Narrow multiple choice answers down to the two you believe might be correct by crossing off the ones you positively know are not correct. This will improve your chances of guessing the right one. True-False questions are often a favorite of some teachers and can be quite complicated at times. Keep in mind that every part of a true-false statement must be true in order to answer it as true. If any part is false, mark the entire statement false. You may want to underline the portion of the statement that you believe is false. If there are negatives in the statement such as “no or not”, and you are still not sure whether to mark it true or false, try re-reading the question without the “no or not”. Decide if this statement is true or false then answer the opposite on your test. Words indicating absoluteness (never, always, entirely, every, only, none) often tend to be used in false statements. Try to construct concise answers that target the question and prove to the teacher that you know the material. Get right to the point in the first sentence or two of your answer. The rest of the answer should contain proof that you know what you are talking about. Give enough evidence to support your thoughts but don’t over-answer the question. Writing a lot of fluff will usually leave the teacher thinking that you are writing for the sake of filling the space and that you really don’t have a good handle on the correct answer. Before you begin writing an essay, make sure you know exactly what the question is asking. Try to restate the question in your own words. If you can’t do this with confidence, make a quick visit to the teacher and have him or her clarify it for you. Once confident in what the question is asking, take a few moments to get your thoughts together and write some notes in the margin or even create an outline on scrap paper if you have time. If you find that you are running short on time and still have some open-ended questions left to answer, write something rather than leaving the space blank. Create a brief outline to show the teacher that you do know the answer, but you didn’t have enough time to write an entire essay. You maybe able to get say more in an outline form than you can if you were only able to write a few opening sentences of your essay. Partial credit is better than no credit at all. Once you believe you are finished with the test, reread everything again to be sure that you answered every question fully and completely. If you have time, cover up your answers with your hand or another sheet of paper and ask yourself what answer you would give if you had to answer the question again. Compare this answer with what you have already written down. Only change the original answer if you find that you made a silly mistake or originally misinterpreted the question. It is usually best to go with your original instinct when you are truly unsure of an answer. Be neat. The last thing a teacher wants to do while correcting mounds of tests is to spend time deciphering what a student has illegibly written.

Are performance driving schools overrated?

November 30th, 2008

Local street driving schools have a core curriculum primarily focused on helping students pass their test, not on controlling their vehicle.

A performance driving school, on the other hand, do not take place on public roads. They are typically on a race track, or sometimes a large parking area. This allows the instructor to encourage students to discover, and go beyond, the limits of the vehicle. This is extremely unsafe on a public road.

You learn how to find the limits of your vehicle, and how to get the most from it. You learn that some of the things that people often find somewhat counterintuitive, like smooth and silent are more or less always faster than squealing and screeching.

What do you learn on the track that translates to the streets? Car location. Know where the corners of your car are. Car placement. Be able to put the car where you want it to go. Understanding and dealing with under steer and over steer to go where you want, not where the car takes you. Limits. How to find the limits of your car. How to get to the limits in driving and not exceed the car’s abilities. Smoothness. Shifting, braking, and other transitions to not break traction. Smoothness is one of the most important skills on the track. Car control. Being able to put all the above together in real-time.

Let me tell you a short story about how a performance driving school course should not be used. This young fellow comes up to me and asked me if this kind of driving course really can help him to handle his car better. Yearh, for sure I said. Then he told me about his cousin Ralph (a man who drives, on average, at around 110 mph) is able to handle his car so well at high speeds, and most other conditions; and that Ralph took, some years ago, a race-car driving course. And now this young fellow wants to know if he can learn to drive like that too?

Well, his cousin Ralph may be able to handle his ride at 110mph, but the little old lady isn’t going to be expecting to be passed by him at that speed when she changes lanes on the freeway. Is he ready for that?

A performance driving course is a great thing, because it teaches you more about how to read your car and the road that could ever be tested in the standard 5 min driving test people usually take when getting a licence. But don’t take that kind of driving to the street because the rest of the general public does not know how to react to it!

Online classes are significant for they are quite different from the traditional classes. In one way the online classes are more facilitative with the hottest and ongoing latest discussions that take place over a short period. One best psychological boost a student can gain through online education is he/she can shed off his shyness of being slow at learning; and also can equip himself/herself with knowledge almost practical, and more often above the regular students have. Online learning helps to increase the educational experiences irrespective of age and geographical diversity. Besides, it is often cheaper when compared to the cost a student spends on traveling, time of work, etc., to attend regular classes physically. You can study form leading scholars, researchers, and professionals from across the world and improve your ability practically, which most of the traditional classroom studies lack. Online study is very less time consuming and, therefore, a student can concentrate on his studies effectively when compared to hours of classroom studies. Online education is also a supplement to traditional education. If you are a traditional student or a scholar or a researcher you can continue your education at any stage of your life and augment your knowledge with the changing world.

Medical Assistant Distance Education is free from affecting your job or professional practice. Moreover, traditional education is tied with old rules and old concepts for a long time. But online education relies on new hypothesis and new concepts and standardizes itself quickly with the speed of the changing and escalating system of education. In this manner, an online student dramatically is far above and advanced than a traditional student. Invest in the Future for Your Son or Daughter, Choose the Right Way to Invest the 250 Pounds

November 25th, 2008

Heard about the Child Trust Fund? Hardly any mothers or fathers seem to realise that all new babies receive a free £250 voucher from the government to invest in a Child Trust Fund. Your son or daughter’s voucher can be invested in any one of three varieties of CTF account, Stakeholder - a shares-based account thatchanges into cash, a savings account or a shares account. It is a great opportunity to save for the future needs of a youngster

Scottish Friendly is an accredited provider of the Child Trust Fund The Government is eager for people to have access to Stakeholder accounts and this is the sort of account that we are offering. This means that:

Investments are sent into our Managed Growth Fund, which intends to provide good growth potential

An investment is made in part in shares to make the most of potentially higher returns over 18 years, compared to a cash deposit account (although the value of shares can
go down as well as go up whereas capital would be protected in a deposit account)

It is available with a low ‘Stakeholder’ funds charge of only 1.5 percent per year

When reaching 18 the child will get a lump sum, completely free of Capital Gains and Income Tax under current law

It is very affordable - additional payments can be put in the account from as little as £10

A notable attraction of the Child Trust Fund is that anyone - parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends - if they want can give to the Fund to a ceiling of £1,200 per year to help increase the child’s Fund (once added, this money cannot be withdrawn).

Put succinctly our Stakeholder account provides a good balance between potentially high returns and a reduced level of risk. There is also the additional assurance that our account is in accordance with with the Government’s stakeholder criteria. Nonetheless this doesn’t mean that returns are guaranteed or that Stakeholder accounts are appropriate for everyone. Remember that the value of shares in the Managed Growth Fund (where your Child Trust Fund money is held) can go down as well as increase and would not be guaranteed.

Only children who were born on or after 1st September 2002 are allowed to open a Child Trust Fund. If you have older children born before the above-mentioned date who are not entitled you could consider saving for them with a Child Bond - it’s a tax-free savings plan which is intended for long-term growth.

It is evident that investing for your son is a sensible means of preparing for tomorrow.

Civil War Uniforms: 13 Lucky Tips for Choosing Your Leathers

November 25th, 2008

Civil War Uniforms: 13 Lucky Tips on Choosing Your Leathers By Paula and Coach McCoach http://www.civilwaruniforms.net

Believe it or not, Union and Confederate soldiers used the same leathers.

You can too!

1. If you are going to do a Federal soldier, buy all U.S. leathers.

2. For Confederates, you can also buy US leathers. Confederates can also buy black leather goods.

3. I don’t like the brown or natural leather goods. I just feel that the black was more common. But, this is a personal preference.

4. You can also get the roller buckle, cut your own straps make your own belt. Call me for a consult and I will help you with that.

5. Belt buckle can be a U.S. Georgia Frame- that is a nice buckle that keeps your leathers from wobbling around, and it is highly adjustable.

6. Fork Tong, Snake Buckle British army type buckles - I have found that they wobble. I would stay away from those. Even though they go on and off real fast, and you only need a couple of holes, they still wobble.

7. I use a roller buckle. Don’t get that modern stainless steel that they use for weight lifting belts that you see.

8. Don’t use the double roller buckle. - I never saw one that looked like it. As I always recommend keep it generic - nice and plain. You can get the tarred stuff.

9. Don’t spend money on things you don’t need. Maryland or other state oval buckles are not recommended by me because it limits the impression and the buckle and keeper is difficult to get on and off.

10.All other buckles are generic. My recommendation would be the Georgia Frame.

11. I was lucky enough to find some good old buckles one time in Amish Country from a shop that had been in existence for 80 years before it was bought and the current owner was about 80 years old.

12. He was rooting around under stuff and I bet I got every good roller buckle there. Some were “Japanned” - that just means they are painted black with enamel paint. They are so nice, but I couldn’t part with them.

13. As I have recommended before, root around in antique stores and flea markets. They are gold mines for Civil War uniforms items at bargain prices!

Coach McCoach invites you to subscribe to the Civil War Uniform News where you will receive information weekly on every possible Civil War Uniform item! These tips will help you have an accurate impression and save tons of time and money in the process! You do not have to spend a lot of money to have a good impression, and Civil War Uniforms will show you how!

Are you planning to purchase a new motorbike and postulate 32500 dollar

November 23rd, 2008

At this moment you can check over rates quickly on the internet and realize if there are possible traps you should know about. It doesn’t matter if you live in Lynwood California or in Decatur Illinois a serious online analysis will save you often a lot of incommode. A moneylender in Federal Way Washington or so may have a total different actual rate of interest for a 22500 dollar credit loan then a bank in Escondido California and that makes a huge clear gap in your yearly pay offs.

of the moneylenders wil show you a loan rate that looks sightly but doesn’t feel well or so after some time. Inspect to see if the merchant bank who is willing to give you a credit loan is untrustworthy. This is why now you really need to go out and run into if you can have a bank loan at a right percent rate. 14.7 percent interest rate may appear so fair but will it stay unceasing after you have to repay your money loan. Be burnished today to examine if you have a nice special offer or if you don’t with the moneylender that offers you a money loan.

Pilot Training: Getting In The Air

November 23rd, 2008

If flying is something that you have dreamed about, then pilot training can and should be part of your future. This type of learning is one of the most exciting because it takes individuals to places that they could never be otherwise. Being in control of a plane is something that is amazing, a feeling that is truly unmatched. If you are interested in pilot training, strap in and start learning first about how it will work.

There are several opportunities available in pilot training. Some of these options include programs that certify you to become a private, commercial or airline transport pilot. These are exciting careers that can have you spending your working hours each day high above the ground. For many, this has been a dream in the making that they have dreamt about for years and years.

But, what happens now that you know you want to get a pilot training? You will want to choose the right pilot training school. To do this, you’ll want to focus on finding a school in the right area. If you have the option to choose anywhere, consider locations that have good weather conditions for most of the year. This will help you to get your hours of flying training in as quick as possible.

Next, you’ll find yourself learning. The first step in training for pilots is to do the book work. You’lll find yourself learning about all sorts of things from how and why a plane works to how to manage a crisis in the air. From there, you’ll be able to use flight simulators to help teach you what you should be doing while you are safely on the ground. Some of these simulators are amazing in that they are actually the size and feel of the cockpit. The final stop, of course, in pilot training is getting off the ground and into the air. You will be amazed at how wonderful it can be to get up in the sky. You will spend anywhere from 1500 to 20,000 hours of pilot training in the skies.

A short biography of some of Europe’s most loved and hated Monarchs - Pt 1 Vlad Tepes (Dracula)

November 22nd, 2008

Vlad Tepes or Dracula was born in 1431, in the fortress of Sighisoara, Romania. His father was the military governor of Transylvania and a member of the Order of the Dragon. The order was created in 1387 by the Holy Roman Emperor and his second wife, Barbara Cilli.

In the winter of 1436-1437, Vlad(Dracul) became prince of Wallachia and took up residence at the palace of Tirgoviste, the princely capital. In 1442, he and his younger brother Radu were taken hostage by the Turkish Sultan Murad II. Dracul was held in Turkey until 1448, while his brother Radu decided to stay there until 1462.

At 17 years old, Vlad, supported by troops lent to him by pasha Mustafa Hassan, tried to seize the Wallachian throne but was defeated by Vladislav II (who had earlier assassinated his father and oldest brother ) after two months or armed conflict. Vlad had to wait until 1456, when he was able to seek retribution against his father’s assassin.

Vlad’s first act of vengeance was aimed at the boyars of Tirgoviste for the killing of his father and older brother Mircea. Around Easter of 1459, Vlad had all the boyar families arrested and impaled the elder members on stakes while forcing the others to march from the capital to the town of Poenari. He then ordered them to build him a fortress on the ruins of an older outpost overlooking the Arges River. Many nobles died in the construction of this castle, the ruins of which can still be seen today.

Vlad became known for his brutal punishment techniques; often ordering people to be skinned, decapitated, blinded, roasted, hacked, buried alive, stabbed and blinded to name a few. He also liked to cut off his victim noses, ears and sexual organs. But his favourite form of torture was impalement on stakes, hence the surname “Tepes” which means “The Impaler” in the Romanian language. It was this form of punishment that he used against Transylvanian merchants who ignored his trade laws.

There are many tales about the psyche of Vlad Tepes. He was known throughout the country for his fierce adherence to honesty and order. Almost any crime, from lying and stealing to killing, could be punished by impalement. Being so confident in the efficiency of his law, Dracula placed a golden cup on display in the central square of Tirgoviste. The cup could be used by thirsty travellers, but had to remain on the square. It was never stolen and remained entirely untouched throughout Vlad’s reign. He looked upon the poor, vagrants and beggars as thieves. Consequently, he invited all the poor and sick of Wallachia to his court in Tirgoviste for a magnificent feast. After his guests had eaten and drunk their fill, Dracula ordered the hall boarded up and set on fire. There were no survivors.

At the beginning of 1462, Vlad launched a campaign against the Turks along the Danube River which was very successful, managing several victories. In retaliation for these losses, the Sultan decided to launch a full-scale invasion of Wallachia with an army three times larger than Dracula’s. Vlad was forced to withdraw towards Tirgoviste, burning villages and poisoning wells along the way.

These acts were designed to hinder the Turkish army in their search for food and water. When the Sultan’s armies finally reached the capital city, exhausted and hungry, they were confronted by a horrific sight: thousands of stakes held the bodies of some 20,000 Turkish captives, which came to be known as “Forest of the Impaled.” The scene which was laid out before them had an immediate effect; the Sultan hungry and worn out retreated. The Sultan Mehmed left the next phase of the battle to Vlad’s younger brother Radu who pursued his brother and wife to Poenari castle on the Arges River.

Dracula’s wife, in order to escape Turkish capture, committed suicide by hurling herself from the upper walls, her body falling down the cliff face into the river below.

Vlad managed to escape the siege and made his way to hungry with the help of local peasants. Upon his arrival the Hungarian king Matthias arrested Dracula and imprisoned him at the Hungarian capital of Visegrad.

In 1475, Vlad Tepes again became prince of Wallachia where he enjoyed a very short third reign. He was assassinated towards the end of 1476.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about Vlad Tepes or as he was better known-Dracula.

In my next article will learn about the life of(Mad)King George III.

Unitl then,

Best wishes and have a great day
