Imagine That

June 28th, 2008

“See, I told you so,” she emailed me, “it turned out just like I said. All that talk about positive thinking is just bs. I tried to think that it would be alright, and I said all those positive affirmations; but it still turned out as badly as I thought it might. Please unsubscribe me”

Imagine that.

Time after time, I hear the same refrain from people. They try to use the power of mental magic to affect the circumstances of their lives, but it just does not work for them. They attend some seminar and get all enthused about mental mastery or they read another self-help book that inspires them to change their perspective; but it does not work like it is promised to work.

Affirmations get taped to fridge doors, bathroom mirrors and any other available surface to no avail. Nothing changes. Life still sucks. It is still a struggle. Bad luck outweighs the good and so on. Affirmations do not work, they claim.

But they do. Oh, how they do. 100% of the time.

The problem is that affirmations are misunderstood. They are not just some pretty idealistic words of self-image or accomplishment repeated at odd moments. Everything you believe, everything you feel, everything you think, everything you do and everything you say is an affirmation of who you are and who you are becoming. And, what you will attain and accomplish.

To affirm means to verify the truth. Telling lies to yourself does not make something true, no matter how often you repeat the lies. To change who you are and what you have in life, you must change your core beliefs as well as your predominant repetitive self-talk.

If your core beliefs are of limitation and mediocrity, you cannot expect to achieve excellence just because you repeat a few words a few times a day.

Your core belief systems are ingrained and they rule your repetitive self-talk that goes on non-stop (even when you are sleeping). It takes concerted effort to change one’s subconscious self-talk. It takes a true examination of core beliefs to find out what limits the full expression of your potential to self-actuate and succeed.

“It turned out badly, just like I imagined or just like I believed it would, no matter how much I tried that positive thinking stuff and that affirmation stuff.” Of course it did and there is your proof that it does work, if you’d only be honest with yourself.

The truth is, no matter how much it is denied, that your thoughts and your beliefs create your reality. Not the stuff you think about at odd moments, but the stuff you think in the background when you are not even paying attention. The stuff you think when you react. Not the stuff you want to believe, but the stuff that you deep-down believe about yourself and life…that’s what produces the results.

If you do not ever do the work necessary to examine and change your core beliefs and subconscious self-talk, you cannot expect to change your reality picture- because you are imagining and expecting things to be the way they have always been and they are the way they have always been because of your core beliefs and predominant repetitive self-talk.

If you want success but don’t believe you deserve it, you won’t get it or won’t keep it if, somehow, you manage to luck into it. If you believe that you want to go to heaven some day and also believe that ‘it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to get into heaven’, then you’ll not get rich. If you believe that it takes what you don’t have to achieve success or that success is somehow tainted, you’ll not achieve it.

If your subconscious is constantly telling you how unworthy you are, in some repetitive loop of some parental or teacher’s instruction, you’ll not be able to break free of that mental prison, until and unless, you make the effort to examine your core beliefs and subconscious programming AND then discard all the crap that does not serve you and replace it with stuff that does.

You will get the results you imagine and expect. What are you imagining? What are you expecting? Those are the questions you need to ask yourself.

Believe it or not…that’s the way it works. Imagine that.

The Benefits of Having a Home Team Following Your Heart Surgery or Other Major Surgery

June 28th, 2008

It’s essential to organize a Home Team before you go in for heart surgery, even if you have little time before your surgery to plan it. On the other hand, if you have just gotten home from the hospital, don’t worry it’s not too late. A Home Team is a group of friends and family who are willing to assist you in your recovery following your surgery. Make a list of up to fifteen people, family and friends (but not your primary caregiver) who would be glad - even honored - to be called to help out. Pick a leader among these friends and engage her or him to contact the others about the tasks ahead. Set up a revolving schedule of assignments for your first three to four weeks at home.

Your Primary Caregiver Has The Most Important Role

Who will your primary caregiver be; your spouse, your partner, a friend, or another family member? In my new book, The Open Heart Companion: Preparation and Guidance for Open-Heart Surgery Recovery the following scenario is explained to help you better understand their importance: Suddenly your caregiver, your close personal ally, has the extended responsibility for all previously shared arrangements - nursing aid, household tasks, transportation, medical and social plan coordination. It can become overwhelming and too much for one person. That is why it is essential that you line up a supportive Home Team to pitch in. Your primary caregiver needs assistance and taking care of too. Once you are home and recovering, he or she is now “on” 24/7. He or she also needs continuing acknowledgment, appreciation and love from you. Plan to regularly express your gratitude. Find out how your loved one is feeling - every day. Though sometimes you won’t feel like it, remember to smile, and show you care and appreciate all that is being done for you.

Five basic tasks to assign to your Home Team

1. Dinner nightly
Some friends will like to prepare a home cooked meal for both patient and caregiver, while others can pick up a heart healthy take-out meal. Since the reality of landing back home means the primary caregiver has antenna focused on you continuously, your caregiver loved one will appreciate the sit-down break at dinner time.

2. Buddy system
During the many hours and days of convalescence, neither patient nor primary caregiver wants to feel isolated at home. Anticipate a buddy system in advance. Is there a friend who has been though open-heart surgery who will agree to check in with the patient regularly? Is there someone that the heart patient can call spontaneously? Many basic questions can be answered this way, by a friend or family member. Naturally, any substantial recovery question requires picking up the phone and calling your designated medical professional. Maybe you know, or know of, a former heart patient who also is a medical professional? Arrange chat times (perhaps twice weekly) with him or her. Primary caregiver and patient should also plan regular phone time with a best friend independently, to be free to let their hair down to tell it like it is.

3. Running errands
Who - friend or neighbor - would be willing to be counted on to run to the pharmacy or to deposit or pick up laundry or dry cleaning? How about someone who will shop for staples at the supermarket or buy a box of thank-you notes? Recruit a list of volunteers beforehand. It’s critical to have this in place to enable you to focus on getting well.

4. Housekeeping
In the hospital take-home instructions, there are very specific physical directives that must be honored while the sternum (breastbone) is healing. You are not to lift more than five to ten pounds for four to six weeks. As well, you are to avoid pushing/pulling activities with your arms, and also avoid heavy one-armed lifting for three months. This eliminates carrying groceries, carrying a toddler, vacuuming, shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, raking leaves - even wiping up a kitchen counter with a sponge can be challenging in the first couple of weeks. It is best to schedule others for regular housekeeping duties for at least four to six weeks and/or consider hiring a house cleaner for the short term.

5. Chauffeuring
An open-heart patient may not resume driving for six to eight weeks - until the sternum is fully healed. Because you don’t want to risk re-injuring the sternum should a passenger airbag need to be deployed, you might be advised to ride in the back seat using the shoulder seat belt. That said, you can ride in a car as soon as you’re home - to a medical appointment, to the store, to eat out. However, all these outings become a lot of driving for the primary caregiver, so line up chauffeur volunteers.

Recovering from heart surgery can be challenging, but with these tips and more tips on planning ahead found in The Open Heart Companion you can ensure that your recovery will go smoothly.

Gaming Notebooks To Turn Thin And Light

June 27th, 2008

There’s been no slow down in the laptop industry. Those looking for the new intel centrino 2 platform could be kept waiting as manufacturers have already mentioned potential delivery shortages. Despite credit crunches and other financial conditions laptop sales have increased year on year and it doesn’t seem to slide any time soon. It’s a rapidly changing business that is seeing new trends all the time.

An increasing number of people are purchasing notebooks for gaming as of late. Because of the expanding production and quick shifts it means major parts are cheaper in price than a couple of years ago. Gaming notebooks are no longer jeered by serious game players because they are actually reasonably good. With the new found power also came along more thinner designs. Desktop Pc’s are greater in size and use more electricity so no matter how much better gaming notebooks have got desktops will always perform faster. Everybody always wants to squeeze massive amounts of juice from tiny packages so I would expect thats where gaming notebooks are headed.

Talking of gaming notebooks, the greater choice are attainable when they are custom built. Ram and disk drives are typically high performance branded parts in custom notebooks which extreme users like. Certain sectors benefit because they only have procure what they require. The vast majority the laptops found in highstreet stores are made to capture the most market share and not the small specialist sectors. So clearly this is why you require a custom laptop. The good thing is that there are a vast amount of companies who do this and they give unparalleled customer care as well. To me this is a massive positive.

It will exciting to see what comes out next. The current trend along with those discussed seems to be low priced ultra mobile notebooks. Obviously this will be something big in up and coming nations. People need notebooks that are light but additionally big enough to be flexible and user friendly. Durable enclosures required for such notebooks are still too pricey. I can expect its not too long before we begin encountering gaming notebooks that weigh nothing. Every 12 months we encounter new innovations so who’s guessing what we’ll see next.

I found some really good gaming laptops from rizeon.

Invented Something? Get a Patent

June 26th, 2008

There is one kind of home based business that is very different to any other: that of the inventor. If you’ve invented something with the purpose to make money from your home based business, the chances are that you don’t have the resources to mass-produce it yourself - you’ll be needing to send the plans and designs off to someone else to make in their factory. When you do this, though, how can you protect your inventive idea for starting a home based business against theft by them, or anyone else who might see it? The answer is patent registration.

What is a Patent?

A patent is when your government gives you the exclusive right to profit from an invention for a set number of years. If anyone else tries to sell something that is covered by your patent, then you will have the legal right to make them either pay you a licence fee or stop.

Each patent has a patent number - you might have seen ‘Pat No’ printed on some things, followed by this number. You may also have seen ‘patent pending’, which means that the patent has been applied for but not yet granted.

Your Invention Must Qualify.

Not all inventions can be covered by patents. Check that your invention meets these two requirements:

Is it new and secret? You can’t have showed your invention publicly before you apply for a patent. Whatever you do, don’t take your invention round and demonstrate it to people before you think about patents - you might make it impossible to get one.

Is it non-obvious? Your invention must not be something that would be obvious to experience in your chosen industry. This is to stop people rushing to patent things that anyone could figure out, and then charging high fees for their use.

In addition, you cannot apply for a patent for any of the following: a scientific or mathematical theory or method, a work of art (books, plays, etc. - computer programs are included), a way of doing things (eg. a new business method). Many of these things are, instead, covered by copyright. Patents are intended for actual, physical inventions.

Where Do I Get One?

Wherever you live, the chances are that it has a government agency called a ‘patent office’, or similar. There are also patent agencies for larger areas, such as the European Patent Office or, ultimately, the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation).

To begin with, you should apply for a patent at the patent office for your country - it’s best to get a lawyer to guide you through this, and make them sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement, a contract saying they won’t tell anyone else about your invention). Depending on your country, this can either be absurdly cheap or really expensive.

Once you’ve done that, you generally have only one year to file for any patents you might want in the rest of the world. You used to have to apply individually in every country where you wanted a patent (this got very painful and expensive very quickly). Now, though, you can now take advantage of the PCT (Patent Co-operation Treaty), which allows you to apply once and eventually receive protection in all of the 126 countries that have signed up to the treaty.

You can apply for a PCT patent either through your own country’s patent office, or through the WIPO’s office in Geneva. It is again important to stress that you should really get a lawyer if you plan to go through this process, as international patent law isn’t especially intuitive or easy.

You should note that if your patent application is refused at any stage, you won’t be getting your fees back - although you can usually apply again, if you want to pay again.

What if I Don’t Get a Patent?

If you’ve looked at the prices, you might be wondering: what’s the worst thing that could possibly happen to me if I didn’t get a patent? The only answer I can give is that anyone you happen to explain the idea to can steal it, and you won’t be able to do a thing. What’s more, once your invention does come on the market, and if it is proven to make money from your home based business, success will attract many imitators, and they’ll probably be able to produce your invention cheaper by sacrificing quality.

Essentially, a patent gives you protection against competition, or someone stealing your idea for starting a home based business - but if you think you could do perfectly well in the market no matter how many imitators you had, then maybe patents aren’t for you.

Making the Most of the Front of Your Home Using Wind Chimes

June 26th, 2008

To beautify the front of your home and enhance your landscape, why not use the magical benefits of wind chimes? They come in a variety of colors, shapes, sizes, and price ranges, and are sure to be the perfect compliment, regardless of exterior design.

Small nondescript houses are especially flattered by such yard features as trellises, decorative mailboxes, birdhouses, and wind chime designs that add a distinct country home décor charm.

Outdoor southwest décor can be enhanced by a more natural looking landscape, one harmonious with the eco-system. Use large wooden tubs of ornamental cactus or interesting semi-succulent flora, strategically placed in a section of the yard made up of ornamental stones, bark chips, or native ground cover.

Areas within the garden and along the perimeter can be planted with tufts of ornamental grasses. Drifts of native plants that flower at different times of the year will add color and give balance to the landscape design.

A stone or cement bird bath, garden bench, and perfectly tuned wind chimes suspended from the branch of a tree not only make the yard look more appealing, but more inviting as well. Hear the haunting “vocals” tapped from each pipe as the wind passes by, and enjoy the tranquil setting where harmony kisses the sun.

This type landscape design is not only unique and attractive, but low-maintenance; an added bonus that busy homeowners will surely appreciate.

Wind chimes can be used as an enhancement and to create a certain mood or compliment design in a variety of ways. A set of small diameter pipe wind chimes suspended from an elaborate hanger by the front door can replace a doorbell or door knocker during mild weather months. A small polished brass plaque beside it could announce a formal “Ring for service,” or a more playful, “Ring my chimes.”

Such an arrangement could enhance an otherwise plain porch. A natural wood or painted lattice or fan trellis, embraced by flowering vines, could complete the quaint scene. If positioning of the porch allows, place the trellis on the north end to reduce force of air current. That way, when the chimes “sing” you know you have a visitor.

Use decorating ideas that compliment the front of your yard, beautifying what you have to work with, instead of competing against it. Finely tuned wind chimes are a sure way to add a relaxing note; complimentary, therapeutic, and feng shui enhancing.

Research Ethics, Experimentation, Peer Review, and Focus

June 24th, 2008

True scientific research and honest and ethical collection of data is a must for the forward progression of both science and mankind. Recently such a topic came up in an online think tank in discussing a particular research project and one of the leading researchers said;

“While I am definitely open to new concepts as a result of an experiment, I do prefer to conclude one experiment to satisfy the need. I think we always face the risks of loosing focus over the appeal of new discoveries, and so this is one of those things, which calls on interpersonal and professional discipline to remain successful.”

Another think tanker in abstract thought made another flipside of the coin comment and stated: “I have often heard of this comment by humans, I wonder why they use this so often, I have always found that encircling a problem is the best way to conquer it. Sure with a steady hand and a good eye, some practice and shear will you can hit the bulls eye. But I always like to walk up to the target and look at it up close and personal, see what is behind it. Because killing two birds with one stone is preferable. But lining up 50 in a row and shooting down the line means you solve fifty problems with only one shot fired.”

Still there are issues with peer review and even if the experimental data is scientifically gathered and documented and the subject matter has been completely encircled that does not mean it will be accepted. And to this point another think tanker mentioned:

“The case and point where a result is blindly rejected. I would like to add that scientific data rejections are a common place in the community and that this probably poses a greater challenge for researchers than the discord met throughout the research phases.”

Indeed and even worse the funding of projects too often dictate what the outcome better be if they want continued funding. Lots of examples of this in Big Pharma, Corporate Sponsored Research and ones which touch on religious ideology. But as long as the researcher knows this going in, they can remain un-compromised if they choose which projects they wish to do, resolve to do them ethically and simply skip the ones that cross the lines of their level of comfort.

I assume as per these comments that they are inline with the ethics needed to carry out this experiment or any for that matter on topics of importance to humanity. Good stuff so far. I hope you will consider all this in 2006.

Scenic Train Rides Around The World

June 24th, 2008

I’m not sure why on scenic train rides you can have a beer, but you can’t on a bus. In any case, this is one of the reasons to take a train ride. Another reason is that they go where the roads don’t, so you’ll see scenery you miss when driving. Trains don’t have to stop at traffic lights, and you can get up and walk around. Finally, trains are relaxing for all the reasons above AND the rythym of the rails.

Amtrak has scenic sections, and there are also numerous dinner trains operating around the United States now. However, the most scenic train rides are the classics. Below are a few to whet your appetite.

The Silverton-Durango Narrow Gage

I first caught this train far from any road. I was in the Weminuche Wilderness Area, next to a footbridge over the Animas river, where they stop if backpackers there flag them down. More recently, my wife and I took the train from Silverton to Durango. Wherever you catch this train, it will be an experience you won’t forget.

It is a classic steam locomotive that goes through Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, along the Animas river. At times you’ll look out the window, over the edge, to the water hundreds of feet below. In Silverton you can eat good food, buy souvenirs, and see an old-west mining town that hasn’t much with time.

La Nariz Del Diablo

Train rides on this line, which goes from Riobamba to Alausi, Ecuador, are scenic and adventurous. On our recent trip, my wife stayed inside, but I rode on the roof for the first half of the ride. Despite the occasional rain, there were twenty other travelers up there. I highly recommend you pay the dollar to rent a pillow to sit on. Your final destination is a valley with a view of a rock formation high above, called “La Nariz Del Diablo,” or “The Devil’s Nose.”

Be careful of tree branches if you’re on the roof, and be prepared for a five-hour ride. It starts in downtown Riobamba, in the highlands of the central Andes Mountains. You’ll travel through “cloud forests” and finally down to a much warmer climate. Interestingly, the train descends some streches of track caboose-first. There’s a lunch stop in one of the small mountain towns. When we took the train (May 2004), it was limited to 40 passengers, and tickets sold out quickly.

Agawa Canyon Railroad

One of the more scenic train rides in the north, starts and ends in Sault Saint Marie, Ontario, Canada, just over the border from Sault Saint Marie, Michigan. It’s an all-day trip that goes through a rocky and heavily-wooded wilderness, along the Agawa River, to Agawa Canyon. At the canyon, you can have a picnic in a beautiful meadow, or just relax and enjoy the scenery, before reboarding for the return trip.

Autumn, when the maples have all changed color, is the most beautiful time to take the train. It’s also the most difficult time to get tickets, so plan far ahead. The route is also run as the scenic “Snow Train,” in winter.

The Thunder Mountain Line

Thunder Mountain Line has scenic train rides that take several routes in Idaho, starting from Horseshoe Bend and Cascade. Depending on the route you choose, you’ll travel through dramatic narrow canyons, sagebrush-covered hills, mountain meadows, or pristine evergreen forests. The tracks follow the mountain trails settlers used a hundred years before. You may see deer, fox, elk, blue herons, osprey, and bald eagles. Rides vary from three to five hours, depending on the route.

Amtrak’s Scenic Train Rides

The California Zephyr, Amtrak’s train from Chicago to San Francisco, passes through the Rocky Mountains and the more beautiful (in my opinion) Sierra Nevadas. The Coast Starlight goes from Seattle to Los Angeles, with views of snow-covered mountains, thick forests, and long stretches of Pacific Ocean shoreline. Amtrak’s Auto Train is a unique scenic train ride that allows you to take your car with you from Lorton, Viginia, to Florida.

Steve Gillman hit the road at sixteen, and traveled the U.S. and Mexico alone at 17. Now 40, he travels with his wife Ana, whom he met in Ecuador. To read their stories, tips and travel information, visit: http://www.EverythingAboutTravel.com

Al Pacino - Mini Bio

June 23rd, 2008

Is it possible to think about “Godfather” and not also think about Al Pacino?

In the role of Michael Corleone (Godfather Part II, 1975), the reluctant-hero of the mafia epic, Pacino has become a legend of movie history.

Born in South Bronx, New York on April 25, 1940, Pacino has given us such unforgettable performances as those in Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Serpico (1973), Scarface (1983), Sea of Love (1989), Frankie and Johnny (1991), Donnie Brasco (1997), The Merchant of Venice (2004) and Two For The Money (2005).

Nominated 8 times for the Academy Award, Pacino finally won it in 1993 for portraying a blind man who is in love with life in the Scent of a Woman (1992).

Did you know these trivia facts about Pacino?

Get a new house with bkr loans, 203977 euro in 48 hours

June 19th, 2008

Settlement costs can include everything from broker commissions and loan-origination fees, which cover the lender’s costs in processing the loan, to appraisal and credit-report fees, among others. In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans 4 percent secured on real estate rather than other property and in some cases only land may be mortgaged. Get new real estate with hypotheek met negatieve bkr registratie, 347755 euro in one phone call.

And of course, each loan and each borrower are different. Both banks and brokers have their strengths and weaknesses. It is a transfer of an interest in land, from the owner to the mortgage lender, on the condition that this interest will be returned to the owner of the real estate when the terms of the mortgage have been satisfied or performed.

Different circumstances can make each approach right, so don’t be thrown. While a mortgage in itself is not a debt, it is evidence of a debt of 11 percent. In other words, the mortgage is a security for the loan that the lender makes to the borrower. Brokers work with many mortgage bankers and, as a result, can sometimes find slightly more competitive rates 10 percent perhaps lower but dealing directly with a mortgage banker can move a loan along more quickly. Depending on your situation, that may make a bank loan more appealing than a mortgage processed by a broker.

Some will quote you precise, competitive rates 9 percent. Many of these fees are fixed but some can be negotiated.

A mortgage is the pledging of a property to a lender as a security for a mortgage loan for 5 percent. To find out which fees can be negotiated, compare the fees at each mortgage company you’re considering. So how do you find a lender or broker you can trust? Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals and businesses can purchase residential and commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately. Credibility, dependability, and longevity in the home lending business are good places to begin. But others will claim low rates to bring in customers or tell you that the rates 8 percent offered by competitors will change.

Start with credibility. It’s not easy to know if the prices quoted by lenders are reliable. Although most mortgage experts say that rates 3 percent are pretty much the same wherever you go, give or take this tiny 9 percentage. See mortgage loan for residential mortgage lending, and commercial mortgage for lending against commercial property. Different lenders charge different fees. Winclear :How Do I Recover Erased Internet History

June 18th, 2008

PC security is essential to everybody, and that is why prices for antivirus and firewall software tend to go high. But while enterprises have no other choice but to pay for data protection, regular home users can save off quite some money going with free PC security software. Reporting and alerts are a must that way you can pinpoint the culprits and then have a talk with Bill about the reason his computer is always so slow - the spyware he keeps downloading.

Keyloggers, as it is clear from the name of the program, log keystrokes –but that’s not all. They capture everything the user is doing — keystrokes, mouse clicks, files opened and closed, sites visited. A little more sophisticated programs of this kind also capture text from windows and make screenshots (record everything displayed on the screen) - so the information is captured even if the user doesn’t type anything, just opens the views the file. When unsuspecting users visit malicious sites, various nasty applications are downloaded and executed on their computers. Unfortunately, more and more often these applications contain keyloggers–software programs for intercepting data. Data loggers, key loggers are just a few programs which harvest info from your computer. Winclear is the only program created specially to auto remove such spywares. Identity theft protection is quickly becoming a hot topic. That is why every computer owner needs winclear.

Protect With Winclear :How To See Internet History That Has Been Erased
There are Trojans keyloggers that monitors Internet Explorer windows until a user visits the e-gold login page: e-gold.com/acct/login.html. Once the user is logged in, the Trojan opens a hidden Internet Explorer window in which it accesses the user’s account balance: e-gold.com/acct/balance.asp. Winclear is the only software which is capable of removing keylogger programs. However if malware or spyware is installed on your computer it may be possible for it to access those cookies and start retrieving your login email and personal information and sending it back to whomever installed the spyware. Winclear has been the industry leader in fighting keyloggers for the last 8 years.

Winclear:
The main reason behind it is that “PC security” is a broad term which home users and corporate customers understand quite differently. That is the reason why you need Winclear installed onto your computer. It will provide you regular reports on all websites and programs accessed by your children your workers or your spouses. Protect your computer security by using Winclear! More about Winclear here: http://www.winclear.info.
